RICHLAND, WASH. (April 22, 2026) – Gesa, a leading credit union in the Pacific Northwest dedicated to driving meaningful change in the communities it serves, announces that Andrew Chung, Chief Information Officer, has been named the 2026 ORBIE Award winner in the Corporate category. The award recognizes the Pacific Northwest’s most impactful technology executives, who translate complex systems into measurable outcomes for the organizations and people they serve.
Chung was selected from finalists representing healthcare systems, major corporations, and financial institutions across the region. The recognition reflects nearly two decades of work building the infrastructure, teams, and capabilities that carry Gesa’s more than 319,000 members forward.
“I’ve watched many leaders over nearly four decades. Andrew is committed to pursuing excellence, and he builds teams and systems that perform,” said Don Miller, President & CEO of Gesa Credit Union. “We congratulate Andrew on this esteemed recognition.”
When Chung joined Gesa, the credit union held $800 million in assets and needed data analytics, development capability, and automation infrastructure to support growth. He built all three. Today, Gesa operates with $6.5 billion in total assets across 46 branches; growth that required systems capable of supporting mergers and acquisitions without extended disruption or incurring runaway costs.
Chung leads nearly 90 people across IT, fraud prevention, physical security, robotic process automation, data engineering, and software development. In 2025, the fraud tools his team deployed identified and prevented more than $1 million in member losses. Robotic process automation across eight departments freed an estimated $590,000 in staff capacity, redirected toward member service. During a year that included a major merger conversion, Gesa’s systems maintained 99% uptime.
“Technology is only meaningful when it removes friction for the people it’s meant to serve. Everything we’ve created at Gesa exists so our members experience a credit union that’s always there for them and our team can focus on what matters most,” said Chung. “This recognition honors the incredible hard work and dedication of our teams. I feel privileged to work alongside such talented individuals, and this is a testament to what we’ve accomplished together.”
Chung serves on the executive committee of America’s Credit Union Technology Council, helping shape national technology strategy for credit unions. He also holds advisory roles with the North American Fintech Coalition and Metal Blockchain’s Banking Innovation Program, where he guides the industry on digital identity, asset tokenization, and emerging security applications.
