Gesa Scholarship Awards

Scholarship applications are now open!

Since 1987, Gesa has proudly awarded over $1 million in scholarship funds. Starting with the 2021-2022 school year, Gesa is awarding $100,000 in scholarships annually!

Gesa’s commitment to higher education​

Gesa offers scholarships in the following four categories:

  • High School Credit Union Program participants
  • Entering college freshmen
  • Current college students
  • Former college students needing assistance with student loan repayment

Scholarship applications for the 2024-2025 school year are closed. Applications will reopen on December 1st of 2024 for the next school year.

High School Credit Union Scholarships

Gesa offers a total of $50,000 to high school seniors who have participated in Gesa’s High School Credit Union program. The High School Credit Union scholarships will be awarded to both Gesa’s High School Interns and Student Tellers. 

High School Interns who complete their internship year are guaranteed a minimum $2,000 scholarship, and one intern will receive the $8,000 President’s Award Scholarship, selected by Gesa’s President and CEO. The remaining High School Credit Union scholarship funds will be allocated to Student Tellers. Individual dollars awarded are dependent on the number of applications received. Starting your freshman year off right

Gesa offers a total of $30,000 to high school seniors who have plans to pursue higher education. Gesa’s Scholarship Committee will select twelve Entering Freshmen scholarship winners and will award ten $2,000 scholarships and two $5,000 President’s Award scholarships. Gesa’s President and CEO will select the two $5,000 scholarship recipients from eligible winners. Eligibility requirements and submission details can be found in the Scholarship Guide.

Gesa offers a total of $15,000 for members who are looking to continue their higher education. Gesa’s Scholarship Committee will select six Continued Education Scholarship winners: five $2,000 scholarships and one $5,000 President’s Award scholarship. Gesa’s President and CEO will choose the one $5,000 scholarship recipient from eligible winners. Eligibility requirements and submission details can be found in the Scholarship Guide.

Student Loan Repayment Scholarships

Gesa offers a total of $5,000 for members who have active student loans from continuing their higher education. Gesa’s Scholarship Committee will select five $1,000 Student Loan Repayment scholarship winners, and funds will be awarded in the form of a principal loan payment. SmartPlus Checking*To earn the higher rate, you must:
  1. Enroll in eStatements
  2. Make a monthly direct deposit of over $200
  3. Complete 15 debit card transactions
  4. Provide and maintain a valid email address
  5. Limit one account per member
For any month where the account does not meet the qualification requirements, the account will earn a lower rate. Minimum balance of $5 needed to open.Qualifying account balances meet minimum requirements. APY subject to change monthly. Rate may change after the account is opened. The qualifying period begins with the first day of the calendar month and ends on the last day of the calendar month at 6:00 P.M. Pacific Time. No monthly fees and no minimum balance required to maintain account. Minimum opening deposit of $5. Fees could reduce earnings.
