RICHLAND, WASH. (October 14, 2025) ‒ Gesa, a leading credit union in the Pacific Northwest dedicated to driving meaningful change in the communities it serves, today announces the expansion of its High School Credit Union (HSCU) Program with the opening of its North Central High School branch in Spokane.
This marks Gesa’s first HSCU branch in partnership with Spokane Public Schools, showcasing its commitment to empowering students through financial education and hands-on experience. To honor the grand opening, Gesa will host a week-long celebration featuring complimentary treats, fun giveaways, and financial trivia for students, educators, and members.
“This partnership with Gesa Credit Union is a great example of what can happen when business and education work together,” said Tim Fortune, Director of Career and Technical Education for Spokane Public Schools. “It gives students real-world, hands-on learning that connects them to future careers in finance and builds financial literacy. We’re excited to see the impact this opportunity will have on students’ confidence and career readiness, and we look forward to seeing it grow across Spokane Public Schools.”
The new branch will be operated by select students from the DECA Business & Marketing class. As part of the program, senior Kate Turnbull was selected for a paid internship to oversee the day-to-day operations of the branch. Any student at North Central High School can now visit the branch and open a Gesa checking or savings account, as well as manage transactions, such as deposits and withdrawals, during designated hours of the school day.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Spokane Public Schools to open the new North Central High School branch,” said Brandon Allison, AVP of Community Impact at Gesa Credit Union. “It’s amazing to see students step into roles that challenge them and build their confidence beyond the classroom setting. They’re learning what it means to show up for their peers, handle responsibility, and work as part of a team. Seeing students discover their strengths and grow as leaders is what makes this program truly special.”
Gesa’s High School Credit Union Program has provided hands-on, real-life financial industry experience for high school students since 2000. In 2022, the program made history by becoming the first Financial Sector Career Launch endorsed program in the State of Washington through Career Connect Washington. The Career Launch program combines meaningful, high-quality, on-the-job experience with classroom learning to ensure Washington students are college and career ready.
