Cheryl Adamson became Gesa Credit Union’s Chief Risk Officer in 2022, leading enterprise risk management across legal and regulatory compliance, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) operations, business continuity, vendor management, human resources, and internal audit.
In this role, she architects programs that balance growth objectives with regulatory integrity—ensuring Gesa scales responsibly while maintaining the trust that members and the community place in the organization.
Her career path distinguishes her approach. After approximately 25 years as a partner at a law firm in Kennewick, serving clients in both litigation and business matters, including Gesa Credit Union, she relocated to Spokane in 2017, where she became a partner and merged her law practice with another firm. Cheryl proudly built strong and enduring client relationships throughout her legal career. In 2021, Cheryl joined Gesa as Vice President and General Counsel. This transition from external counsel to Senior Executive Leadership allows her to merge legal precision with business strategy, viewing risk not as a constraint but as the framework that enables sustainable growth. Cheryl uses her experience to anticipate events and structure solutions to ensure the credit union can pursue its goals while maintaining the regulatory integrity and member trust that define our mission.
What makes Cheryl’s perspective unique is that few people in her position have spent most of their career outside a financial institution. This outside perspective, combined with her dual professional passions for law and business, allows her to bring fresh thinking to her role while helping shape Gesa’s strategic vision as the credit union.
Cheryl holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Gonzaga University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Washington. Her dual expertise in law and business operations informs how Gesa navigates regulatory complexity while staying focused on what matters most: serving as a trusted lifelong financial partner for its members and the communities it calls home.
