2020 US Census Scams

Make sure you’re counted in 2020 while protecting your personal information.

2020 is a US Census year and your response to the census directly helps your local community get its fair share of government funding for schools, roads, and emergency services. However, during this time be on the lookout for phishing emails that use the Census as a cover to obtain your personal financial information. The Census Bureau will never send you unsolicited emails, and will never ask for your SSN, your bank account or credit card numbers, or financial donations or contributions. In the case of a home visit from a Census representative, check to make sure that the individual has a valid Census Bureau ID badge that contains their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date. For more information on how to stay safe, visit www.2020Census.gov.
